Copadichromis sp."virginalis yellow crest" Gome

Copadichromis sp."virginalis yellow crest" can be found on several places in Lake Malawi, for example on the eastern coast of Malawi from Makanjila up to Gome Rock and in the northeastern part of the lake near Ikombe, Nkanda, Lumbira an Liuli but they can probably be found on more places along the entire eastern coast. They are living in open water nearby intermediate zones from rocks to sand on steep rocky coasts. This species is often mixed up with the smaller Copadichromis sp."virginalis gold".
The fish shown on the pictures above are offspring of original wild caught species from Gome Rock.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 13 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 16 cm, females grow to about 12 cm.

Copadichromis sp."virginalis yellow crest" is mainly living like similar species in open water where it`s feeding itself with plankton.
You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space.

In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
